Play Earth Park at Tokyo Midtown

Updated: Sep 25, 2022

What a fun way to start off Golden week with some sensory play all about Earths five elements.

This exhibition is no longer on display.

Our Sunday park play date looked a little different today, I had planned to meet some mum friends at the usual park we meet at Hinokicho Park but remembered that Tokyo Midtown has a kids play zone on during Golden Week. So after a bit of play at the park we ventured up to the Lawn outside Tokyo Midtown to check out "PLAY EARTH" that focuses on the theme of "earth / water / wind / sky / fire", the five earth elements.

The zone is roped off and opens at 11am, we weren't sure if we wanted to line up - it was about 10:45am when we joined the line and it was already long. After waiting about 20 mins we found out they only let in 250 people at a time but once in you can stay as long as you like, we were at the point where we waited too long to give up. In the end it took us about 45 mins to get in (it didn't seem that long with lots of talking and entertaining the little ones).

Once in S had the best time exploring all the different zones She loved the "Ground EARTH (CHI)" it was a maze of giant hexagonal pyramids, off she went climbing between each one with the big kids towering above her, she has no fear and just kept exploring. In the end I think we were probably in there about about 30-40 mins as it started to sprinkle so they actually shut it down and asked everyone to leave.

It was a big day for S and maybe some sensory overload as tonight she seemed to be so overtired even though she had an afternoon nap. It's so hard to tell before you do something how they will react to a new experience. During the day she had the best time and didn't once complain but I guess tonight showed it was a lot. If you have the time and maybe get there early it's a fun activity to do with your kids. If your child is around 8 months or younger I would still check it out but maybe limit your time in there.
