Sakura family photoshoot

The best family photoshoot with Tokyo Portrait Photographer – Ippei and Janine Photography.

Having a photography background I place a huge emphasis on great quality family photos. I thought Sakura Season would be a perfect time for some family photos and also a great memory to have of our life in Japan. I got in touch with Janine from Ippei & Janine Photography early on to see if she could shoot our family during the season, she did our maternity photos back in 2020 and I absolutely loved them and wanted her to take our family ones with Scarlett. I am so happy with the outcome of how these turned out.

Janine was lovely as always to shoot with and super patient with us too as most of the time our daughter just wanted to run around and not be held up for the photos. She was wriggling everywhere, we used every distraction in the book to get her to stop but in the end we had to let her run wild and Janine went with the flow and got some incredible shots of her. We did manage to get the photos of us holding her but it was really nice that Janine just went with it and I love the ones of her running.

If you are looking to get some family photos done I can highly recommend Janine. If you need some guidance on what to look for when choosing a photographer for yourself and family here are my suggestions.

  • Have a look at the photographers instagram & website to see if you like their style of photography.

  • If you are after family photos pick someone who has had a good amount of experience in this (or if you are going for someone who is just getting into family photography be mindful that they are learning all about family photography and the dynamics of working you and your children).

  • Choose someone who’s a good fit for your family - this makes the day go smoother and you'll be able to be yourself around the photographer

  • Read reviews - this will give you an insight into how everyone's experience was with them.

  • Timing; If you have a season in mind for outdoors make sure you reach out to the photographer early because certain seasons book out quickly (I booked our Sakura Photo session about 3 months in advanced and even then I was lucky to get a spot).

  • Budget; this may vary on what you can afford and how experienced the photographer is. When looking into price find out how much it is for all the images included and not just a selection of 10 or so images, because trust me it is too hard to narrow down when you love them all. From a photographers perspective take into consideration the hours a photographer spends editing photos after, a photographer may spend 30mins to an hour with you but then spend 3 to 5+ hours editing.

  • And lastly ask your friends if they have anyone they recommend.
