Sakura season without the tourist

Updated: Mar 31, 2022

This is my favourite time of year in Japan, there is something so magical about cherry blossom trees.

It sucks that Japan is closed to tourist still in 2022 as I wish my family could visit but it does have its perks, and that's starting to show as I walk along the Meguro river looking at the cherry blossom trees thinking isn't this so magical than you can view the them comfortably. Don't get me wrong it's still busy but it's a different busy than it was with tourist. If you haven't been to Japan during Sakura Season it is normally chaotic as it's the busiest tourism season in Japan. I'm pretty sure Japan will open soon to tourism but while it's still closed I am taking every advantage of the somewhat less chaotic Japan.

Meguro River

If you are walking from Naka-Meguro to Meguro keep walking towards Gotanda and stop to get coffee and lunch at Toner. I highly recommend this place, try the Pakistani Curry - they even have a half pipe skate ramp inside (super random) but very cool. Also the side of the river in Meguro that has the Meguro Residents' Swimming Pool is the better side to walk down for a more full canopy of trees.

Naka Meguro

Naka Meguro is one of the most popular Sakura viewing areas, I went on a Thursday afternoon and it was fairly busy but the further I walked up the river to the Starbucks reserve it started to get less busy. I was seriously obsessed with the canopy of blossoms over the river, it was so beautiful and it was constantly snowing blossom leaves. I love the blossom police as I call them, monitoring the roads and making sure everyone is crossing them properly and not getting run over - so much whistle blowing telling cars and people to watch out, it's great to watch them in action.

Rinshi-no-mori Park

This park is super nice if you want to see the Cherry Blossoms and escape the crowds, even on the weekends it's not too busy. I've written more about it in this blog post here.
